Urquhart (ERK ert) Castle stood on the banks of Loch Ness for centuries. The Highland rebels used it for a base in the "Braveheart" uprising. After the loss at Culloden Moor, Government troops blew up the castle as punishment, and to prevent it's use as a stonghold ever again. What a magnificent building site...
This is what's left of the living quarters.
This piper plays for the tourists every day. His music echoes mournfully across the Loch. We were all very moved, but Peter, our B&B host, later said he was "a terrible piper...bloody awful". I asked him how to tell the good from the bad, where bagpipes are concerned...he was not amused by my humor!
This waterfall/rapids is where the River Arn empties into Loch Ness, at the opposite end from Inverness.
More pictures to follow, as I get them scanned. I will try to get some decent captures from the camcorder tape, as well.
