We stayed one night (all we could afford!) in Langley Castle, which has been converted into a luxury hotel. We ate and slept like kings...literally!

Our room looked out over the English countryside.The outside walls are 7 feet thick stone, so we didn't have to worry about errant cannonballs flying about. The windowseat is set into the thick wall. After a good night's sleep, it was (as the hotel owner told us) "one whack of a drive" up to Inverness. He was right, but the Highlands were beautiful!
